Brilliant Barrow

In 2020, Barrow was one of 101 towns selected to submit a proposal for up to £25m of funding from the Government’s £3.6bn Towns Fund.

The bid was successful and Barrow became one of the first towns in the country to secure the maximum possible grant to enable seven exciting projects to be delivered.

Now, Westmorland and Furness Council is leading the work to deliver each of the projects to ensure Barrow thrives as a great place to live, work and visit for generations to come.

Our Projects

The seven projects selected as part of the #BrilliantBarrow Town Deal will touch almost every part of life, from education to health and wellbeing and housing regeneration to entertainment and culture.

Learning Quarter

The ambitious Learning Quarter project aims to create more opportunities for people in Barrow and the surrounding areas to access further and higher education

Community Hubs

THE wellbeing of Barrow residents is at the heart of the Community Hubs project, which will see a network of four centres created in key locations.

Business & Enterprise

A THRIVING business economy is one of the aims of the wider #BrilliantBarrow Towns Deal programme, with the Business and Enterprise Support project key to achieving this

Housing Renewal

THE Housing Renewal project is a multi-million pound scheme that will see investment in almost 300 residential properties across Barrow along with 39 commercial properties

Marina Village

THE Marina Village project has been on the agenda for many years and moving it forward to the next stage is now the core aim of this project.

Place Development

INSTILLING a sense of pride in the town and making Barrow an attractive place to live, work and visit is at the heart of the Place Development project.

Hopes & Dreams

At the start of the #BrilliantBarrow journey, residents of the town shared what they would like to see as they helped to shape an exciting vision for the future.

From youngsters to members of the older generation, proud Barrovians made their voices heard.

Cafe and cocktail culture, a desire for more indoor recreational spaces, a bowling alley and Junk Yard golf, were all part of their exciting plans for a truly #BrilliantBarrow.
